Station List

Station List

The station list contains a table with information to all known stations. This list contains the following columns:

  • Station - station number (assigned by the system)
  • City - city in that the station is located (assigned b ythe user)
  • Comment - user defined comment
  • Country - country in that the station is located (assigned b ythe user)
  • Regions - regions for that the station contribute (assigned by the administartor, in general exactly one region)
  • Status - status of the controller
  • Last Signal - time stamp of the last received signal
  • Total - number of received signals within the last two hours
  • Valid - number of valid signal within the last two hours
  • Involved - number of signals invlovled in the calculation within the last two hours
  • Used - number of selected signals used to compute the strike position within the last two hours
  • Closest - shortest distance to a strike position in whose calculation the station was involved within the last two hours
  • Farthest - farthest distance to a strike position in whose calculation the station was involved within the last two hours

The station list can be filtered by stations/users and by regions/countries

  • Stations (comma separated list of station numbers) or * as wild card
  • Users (comma separated list of user numbers) or * as wild card
  • Regions (only for stations): All or one of Europe, Oceania, North America, Asia, South America, Africa, Japan
  • Countries: All or one of Afghanistan, Albania, …, Zanbia, Zimbabwe

The station list can be sorted by clicking the column headings.

To the left of each row there is a yellow circular icon which is a link to three statistics diagrams for the corresponding station.

Ther page contains three diagrams. At the top the wave form of one of the last signals received including the FFT of the signal. In the center statistic_1, at the bottom statistic_2.

Parameters are

  • station - number of the station
  • region - region of the station
  • minutes_composed
  • header_line - 0/1 switches the heading off/on
  • header_text - 0/1 switches the color explanations off/on
  • drawing_area_height - 1-300 defines the scale height
  • weeks - 1-4 limits the display to the last n weeks
  • time_zone - -11/12 adjust the rtime scaling to local time

Here is a brief explanation of the 4 values on BO that Egon introduced a few years ago to replace the efficiency index at BO, which was not useful to adjust a station.

(white) Total strikes is the number of signals received on the compting server. This does not have to be the number of signals that the station has sent, since the signals are sent to the computinging servers via a relay server. Here some signals are lost.

(yellow) Valid signals are signals that look like impulses and have a certain noise / signal ratio. A characteristic signal is calculated for each station. If the received signal differs significantly from it, it is not valid. The graphic shows an example. In addition, the time stamp is also adjusted, as the trigger location depends on the signal strength. In the picture you can see three signals, only channel 3 delivers a valid signal. Below are 3 reference signals from the 6 channels of the station. You can check the valid status also with the grafic signal.php.

(green) Signals with a similar time stamp are grouped together. If there are enough signals in a group, a calculation is initiated with the amount of signals. These signals are the signals involved. A station far away from all other stations will probably never be involved in a calculation because not enough other stations received the same lightning discharges.

(blue) A position calculation is started for each set of valid signals. Not all signals of the set are 100% suitable. Often only the 12 best matched signals are selected from the set. These are the used signals.

All signals that were involved are listed in the signal files. The signals that were used are marked as used signals. So everyone can process and visualize involved / used signals for themselves.

The values in the statistic_1.php graphic do not have to match the values in the station list on BO exact. The station list values are taken from the database, which is updated every minute. The values for the graphic statistic_1.php are taken from a file to relieve the database. However, this file is updated at different times than the database.

Parameters are

  • station - number of the station
  • days - 1-28 limits the display to the last n days
  • distance_labels - comma separated list of labels to be used i.e. 10,50,200,500,2000,5000
  • labels_extension - 0/1 switches the labels extension off / on; If set to on, the maximum distance will get it's onw label if it is beyond the maximum distance_labels distance.
